I asked each one of the group, when we finished the Unpop cd, to write a few lines about Michelle Neves, including herself. Wayner Nunes, Gentil Saraiva and I, who have been more in touch with her, we wrote, each one, a paragraph. From herself I just received the following line: ”How difficult it is to describe Michelle Neves; I still do not know how to do this.” One cannot infer from the uncertainty in the sentence that she will still do that, at least immediately. What I have understood is that she has not taken the question lightly, much less understood that some biographical trivia would be enough. If each one of us were to ask himself the same question, perhaps we could understand the existential weight that Michelle has given the question, and then we would see her (and ourselves too) like Hamlet in front of a mirror or in front of his twin sister. I do not want, thereby, to establish an analytical parallel with Shakespeare’s character, except for the principle of all: that Michelle really dealt with the question as a question or issue, and that this is also the way in which her art is manifested, but taken by the inverse and resolute “to be” of the sentence: the difficult that can be done, or “at least”, faced.
September is the birth month of Virgoan Michelle Neves. Congratulations, Michelle. ”Béatitude!”, as Descartes would say, which is that kind of happiness that depends entirely on ourselves.
